Gdansk könyvesbolt és büfé // Gdansk bookshop and bar

A vodka alapú italok amúgy is megoldják a nyelvünket. Legalábbis az enyémet biztosan!

If something is simple and beautiful, then it has a place in my blog I am shure! So I will share some photos of Gdansk Bookshop and Bar where we were yesterday. I do not know anything about polish kitchen, and Dani is going to Krakow this summer, so it was time to get to know the culture of our goodies. I have read Ludmila Ulickaja’s Imago last summer and in this book they were eating pierogi, raw fish and drinking vodka all the time. I decided to try raw fish not because they sounded delicious but because I could not imagine how can anyone eat so much of these treats. But now I know it is not a sacrifice! The place is nice and friendly, the polish delicacies on the menu are vary from time to time. We tried the cucumber soup and herring with onion sauce and the small herring rolls with dried plum, honey and garlic. They were a pleasant surprise. Most of the books are in polish though, and we do not speak that, but if you do, then you can even talk to the owner in her mother tongue too. The vodka based drinks will loose your tongue anyway, they certainly did mine!

Hétvégi ital // Weekend drink

inf2

I am here again with my Weekend drink series, but I will post only every second week. For the other weeks I am prepairing something new, but let it be a surprise.

Hot summer days are dangerously close, so I introduce my very favorite summer drink, the Infused water. The idea is to use any kind of fruit, and soak them into water, so after a hot summer day when I arrive home, Tadamm! there is a cool refreshing drink waiting for me in the fridge. We used to drink a similar drink in Mexico, but they blend the fruits with sugar and water and drink it as a fruit soda. You can try this as well, or simply drink the water off the fruit like I do. You can do this with any kind of fruits, I like to use strawberries, apples and watermelon too. So simple, and tasty!

Citrus infused water

any kind of citrus, one piece of each

half an apple

mint leaves (if desired)

ginger slices (to boost you up)

sugar or xilit

I wash the fruits with a little vinegar and hot water and dry them with paper towel. I add the juice of every half fruit to a big jar. Cut the other half and add to the juice. Fill the jar with water and put it in the fridge for a day. I add some sugar right before drinking. Best to drink it from the jar, with a straw.

Ünnep // Feast

thecakeblog_

My girlfriends from uni and I got together these days to celebrate Nora’s 30th birthday. She spent the last six month in Sri Lanka, so we had our little feast a few month later. What a reunion! Last year I made her this original Golden Girl coctai from ABM for her bachelorette party, and now I designed the Golden Girl cake for her. She is truly golden!  However, I was not planning to put this cake on the blog, but as it is so tasty I thought it deserves a post.  (So I apologize for my not-so-blog-compatible photos.) Happy birthday Nora! 30 is the new 20.

The Golden Girl cake

For the batter:

3 egg whites and yolks separated

3 T hot water

150 g sugar, and one bag vanilla sugar

100 g all purpose flour

50 g starch

3 T unsweetened cocoa powder

pinch of salt, 1 t baking powder

any kind of liqueur that has a fruity taste, I used blackberry liqueur

For the cream:

300 g mascarpone

300 g hungarian cottage cheese or soft cream cheese

sugar to taste

zest of one lemon

300 g frozen raspberries

Mix the sugars and salt in a small bowl. Also mix the flour, starch, baking powder and coca in another ball. Beat up the egg whites with the hot water. Add the yolks carefully, then add the sugar and then the flour mixture, while mixing it constantly with a rubber spatula. Pour it in a cake mold lined with baking sheet. Bake it on 160 Celsius for 30 min. When cold, water with the liqueur until the batter is softened. Meanwhile baking, mix the mascarpone and cottage cheese or cream chese with a blender, to smoothen the crumbs of the cottage cheese. Add the sugar, and zest and cool it for half an hour. If the cream is too thick, add a tablespoon (or two) sour cream to it.

Pour third of the cream on the batter, and create an even layer. Add the berries, then cover them with the rest of the cream. Sprinkle the cake with some golden lustre with a dense strainer and add some golden sugar pearls right  before serving. I bought theese golden decorations in Asia Bt.

This cake is tasty, very girlish and a perfect treat for a weekday night out accompanied with a nice white vine and friends.

As you can imagine, I fell in love with gold-covered cakes. I mean, how cool is this? And I am definitely going to to this! I love the golden fruits.

And last but not least  I hit my 20th post on the blog with my last writing about my new boxwood plants. Long live my blog, I hope I will get the chance to continue and evolve fos many years.

ps: Now we are heading to the playground, I wil update the post with the hungarian version in the evenig.

A zöld réteghez:

két érett kivi

egy marék bébi spenót

fél zöldalma

2 kocka jég

A fehér réteghez:

1 dl kókusztej

2 nagy evőkanál görög joghurt

a zöldalma másik fele

If it is the healthiest thing ever, it must be some green, grassy-taste ugly leaves. You eat it and you are healed, your hair grows, and can last without sleep for a week. And other such promises. I don’t like ugly leaves. But they are really healthy. So I choose this surprisingly tasty smoothie for this week. Originally, I made this nice apple-spinach smoothie last year, but now I changed the lime ingredient to kiwi, which gives an extra fruity taste to the spinach, and makes the green layer super green.

Kiwi-spinach smoothie:

For the green layer:

2 ripe kiwi

a handful of baby spinach

half a green apple

2 ice cubes

For the white layer:

1/4 cup coconut milk

2 big tablespoon greek yoghurt

other half of the green apple

Sziasztok!

Emlékszem amikor Mexikó legnagyobb epertermelő városában laktunk, minden ezekről a kis piros gyümölcsökről szólt.

200 g eper

1 érett kivi

egy nagy evőkanál görög joghurt

kevés cukor

Hi everyone! Can’t believe it is thursday already! Sorry for not posting this week, but we got sick. Luckily not that sick to make me unable to mix up a nice smoothie for the weekend.

I rememberd the time when we were living in the main strawberry producer city of Mexico. It was all about theese little red berries. We could buy them during the whole year and had strawberry smoothie for almost every morning. It is not yet strawberry season here, but I feel crazy about a good smoothie, so  I buy these spanis strawberries in a plastic box, when I just can’t resist that morning drink anymore. I made it without sugar, but you can add some if you feel like. A little sugar can never hurt, right?

Strawberry-kivi smoothie serves one:

200 g strawberries

1 ripe kivi

a big tablespoon of greek yoghurt

little sugar to taste

And finally our narcissus are in bloom!

Hétvégi ital // Weekend smoothie

I know, I am crazy, it is only Thursday. But I have a theory, or at least, I had, before being a mom. Because since Helka was born, weekends have pretty much the same routines as weekdays. But before her, I spent my weekdays at the office. Working hard of course, and waiting for weekend. To make sure it comes soon, I made up a theory: Thursday night is already weekend, because who cares about Fridays? The whole Friday is weekend! You just have to survive the day as fast as you can, and then Boooom! Friday night = 100% weekend.

So. How will you make this drink for Friday morning, if I only post it on Friday? There you go!

Orange coconut smoothie serves one:

1 cup coconut milk (from powder or liquid)

juice of 1 orange

1 whole orange

a frozen banana (peeled and freezed for overnight)

some xilit to taste

orange zest

home made vanilla extract

Mix the ingredients in a blender, until smooth, for about 3 minutes. Pour into a portable cup, sprinkle with orange zest. Take it to work, Enjoy Friday!

P.S. From now on, I will share a smoothie or shake recipe for Fridays during spring season. My aim is to eat more healthy and consume more fruits, so I will clean my system during the spring months. Also I wish to inspire you to be more produtive and happy at work.

Coffee to go

cup

On this grey saturday afternoon Helka and I went on a walk in the city. Dani stayed at home suffering from THE very popular and most-of-all catchy influenza in Budapest. I was feeling depressed, and uninspired. But then a sudden idea came into my mind: why not take a coffee to go, to save me from this “mental anemia” I am feeling? So, I went to Asztalka Confectionery, and bought a latte to go.Then we headed to the wet and lonely playground, where all Helka wanted to do is eat sand and ugly wet twigs. But it was fun, she was sweet, and really happy standing next to the slide. I was simply enjoying the time together, just the two of us! The coffee was so good, I think I established a new habit. What a simple way to cheer me up!
